Our first dog Sadie was acquired in December 1995 from someone in Elk Garden, WV.  Unfortunately she was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney failure in the spring of 2008.  Attempts were made to keep her alive such as administering Ringers Lactate 3 times a week but eventually she became too weak from loosing weight.  The nice people at the Pulaski Veterinarian facility suggested we put her to sleep on July 6, 2009.  It was a terrible loss but must admit she had a good life over the years and traveled everywhere we went such as to upper Ontario on fishing trips, camping etc.

My husband and I said we should never get another dog but in May, 2009 a sort of loneliness for a dog began to set in.  Towards the end of May, I discovered someone who works where I do wanted to sell a twelve week old Chihuahua.  She was one of a litter of four owned by Chris and Blaze in Dundalk and I couldn't resist those dark eyes and vigorous movements.  I brought her home and surprised my husband and thought at first he may not be interested but when Bambi began licking his face and climbing around his shoulders, he gave in.  We both agreed on the name Bambi since when sleeping, she looks like a small fawn.

As each day goes by, it is so amazing how much energy this little puppy has.  She is especially fond of me getting on the floor  while she pulls my hair, nibbles on my fingers and sometimes actually penetrating my skin with those needle like teeth.  Potty training is our main goal now and slowly she is adapting to using newspapers and is familiar with my saying, "Pee Pee on the Paper".

She will be taken to the veterinarian for shots with continued de-worming and possibly have the embedded RFID device placed under her skin when she grows larger.

Bambi was taken to the Pulaski Veterinarian Clinic June 4, 2009 for a checkup and possible immunizations.  She received her Distemper shot and were given de-worming medicine for her to take the next day.  In ten days she will be given her first 2.5 Milligram dose of Milbemycin Oxime for her weight of 3.2 pounds which she weighs at 12 weeks old.

Bambi is a very curious Chihuahua and always checking things out.  Our biggest problem was keeping her in the yard since the front yard gate and driveway gate had a gap underneath of about 3.5 inches.  Somehow, even now with her weighing almost 7 pounds and 1 year old, she was able to compress her body and slip underneath the gates.  A remedy was found by attaching 1 inch treated lumber strips to the undersides.  She loves the outdoors, even in the winter but only long enough to do her business and she runs back in.

It was necessary to find a suitable restraint for Bambi when traveling and found the below seat at a local PetSmart store.  Bambi wears a harness restraint which clips to the seat so that in an unlikely event we stop suddenly because of an accident, she would not be thrown to the front.  Whenever we are outside cleaning the automobile, Bambi will jump into the car and get in her seat right away thinking we are going for a drive.  She has been on several 200 miles and back trips and there is never a whimper since we stop often for her to pee.  Sometimes when Bambi yawns as she is in the below photo, she lets out a shriek which surprises her as much as us.   Now and then we will have short videos showing her antics.
