After fishing for a week at Lake Coonie last year, we decided we like Lake MacSmith better. Fishing was great at Coonie but for some reason we liked the surrounding rocks and the cabins's front porch at ground level. The abundance of low bush Blueberries provided a means of exploring the terrain while picking them not to mention the our delightful morning fruit. We took enough home for my wife to add them to her Zucchini bread and sometimes when having pancakes for breakfast. The wild low bush blueberries are much smaller than commericla berries but with a much better taste.
One night when I walked out if the cabin just to take a look at the night sky, I was surprised to see what I thought at first to be multicolored clouds but soon realized it was the Aurora Borealis. Mary and I had never seen an Aurora Borealis before even though many times I had bounced 2 meter signals (144 MHz) off the Aurora curtain by pointing my beam antenna northward from Baltimore, MD. We stood and watched the Aurora for a long time before it slowly disappeared. Another advantage of being so isolated from large cities is the appearance of our Milky Way galaxy. It was amazing to be able to pick out many constellations and some planets with the naked eye.
