Since getting my 5000A, I have learned many things concerning transmitting and receiving methods with Dual Diversity Reception being my favorite. It does of course require a minimum of 2 antennas, preferably in my case, a vertical for transmitting and whatever other transmit antenna for receive such as a resonant dipole or in my case, a Loop Skywire resonated by a remote tuner. A vertical tends to pick up more noise than a horizontal but is ideal for transmitting using an Ameritron 811 amplifier. With stereo speakers situated in front of me or using stereo headphones, I can catch most fading situations and even though the vertical may pick up noise, I can hear one speaker fade whereas the other may increase the received signal. The Flex 5000A is fantastic for using diversity reception but perhaps somewhat complex to setup at first. Here is a well written Blog by W9OY who is a contributor to Flex Radios Site. He has made it easy to follow his instructions and you will soon be using Dual Diversity reception. http://w9oy-sdr.blogspot.com/
