Thought I would take a few screen grabs to show just a few of the many possibilities of the Flex 5000A. Running several programs at the same time, including LAN for logging is possible when using a QUAD core processor with at least 4 GB of RAM or more. The first screen shows a routine setup whereas the N3FJP logging program is always available using QRZ'S instant lookup feature but in the meantime have switched over to logging with nGenlog which interfaces with the ARRL Log of the World. When working CW, especially contests, the CWX panel is a tremendous help with pre made messages such as calling CQ, answering with just my call and other information. Any outgoing message can be interrupted by using the Begali key to continue on. By using software such as MixW, operating various digital modes is easy and although we don't use it, MixW does well using high speed CW, bit receiving and sending premade message Macros. I would say the average CW operator runs 25 to 35 WPM which also requires fast QSK equipment, especially when running an amplifier.
The above screen shot was taken while I was still using N3FJP logging software and am now using nGENLOG which interfaces with the ARRL "Log of the World". This is an example of using one monitor where third party software can also be displayed. By using a QUAD 4 PC, 2 monitors make it even easier, being able to run multiple software and being on the internet for instant automatic QRZ lookup when logging.
The above screen shot was taken October 18, 2009 while the Alaska DX Club KL50 was celebrating 50 years (1959) as a state, calling CQ on 15, 17 and 20 meters. They are located near Anchorage and I easily worked them since the 15 metre band was in good shape that day. The lettering above the panascope display was inserted using Paint Shop Pro. Too bad we can't find the other 7 states which President Hussein Obama said we have.
nGENLOG does everything a person would want, especially during contests. By paying an annual fee to QRZ (Premium Member), a stations information is instantly displayed as soon as the last letter in the call is entered or a 3 second pause. It keeps track of all awards and will send informatiuon to the ARRL's LOG of the WORLD ( If you can get LogtW to work) along with other sites such as E-QSL etc. The only problem at this time is getting it to function with Flex Radio since there is no physical RS232 port to emulate the Kenwood TS2000 which the Flex Radio Software requires.
